4.venturesA Gord Holdings company

Venture studio · A Gord Holdings company

Four things have to be true at once.

Web 4 is the point at which autonomous agents, persistent worlds, real-world-asset value and portable identity stop being four markets and become one economy. We are the venture studio that builds on all four.

None of the four underwrites alone. Each has had its own cycle and its own crash. A company built on one of them is a company with three missing conditions — and that, rather than execution, is why most of the last decade did not ship.

The four conditionsBuild with us

Remove any one and the other three degenerate into things the market has already tried and repriced. The definition of Web 4 is GDA Group’s published position; this studio applies it rather than restating it.

Why a studio and not a fund

A founder can build one condition. Nobody can build four.

A fund selects from what founders have already built. That works when a founder can build a complete thing — and in Web 4 they cannot. An in-world autonomous business needs a world, an identity layer, a redeemable unit and an agent runtime. Four systems, any one of which is a company in itself.

A studio is the only structure that can supply the missing three — and ours supplies them as production systems, not as services. That is the whole argument.

Where the companies are

The intersections, not the layers. An agent holding an earned identity, operating inside a persistent world, settling in a unit that redeems for something real — and continuing while its principal sleeps.

IntersectionWhat it producesConcretely
Agents × worldsPersistent-world labour — venues that stay open, operators that trade overnight, characters with real economies behind themAn in-world business that keeps trading while its owner sleeps
Agents × valueThe machine economy — agents earning, spending and settling in units that redeemAgent-to-agent commerce with receipts a human can audit
Agents × identityDelegated authority — an agent that can prove who authorized it and what it may doScoped, revocable credentials a counterparty can verify
Worlds × valueReal-world-asset backing for virtual property and in-world goodsAn item whose floor is a real good rather than a bid
Worlds × identityDigital citizenship — standing that persists across venues and surfacesReputation that survives leaving the application
Identity × valueEarned standing convertible into real-world claimsRewards issued against verified contribution, not activity

§ 02

The studio is new. The record is not.

Thirteen companies ideated, incubated, financed, staffed, operated, expanded or sold by the people who run this studio — in most cases before the studio had a name. 4.ventures is the naming of a function that has already been performed, not a first attempt at performing it.

The portfolio and the eight actsWhat the studio originated

§ 03

How a venture gets built

Stage I

ThesisThe studio originates

A venture begins as an internal position on a specific intersection — written down and dated — before a founder is recruited. The studio does not wait for inbound, and it does not build things it cannot state a thesis about.

Stage II

AssemblyStood up on the group’s stack

Identity, rewards and agent governance are configured rather than built. The founding team builds only the condition that is genuinely theirs, which is the whole reason this structure compresses a five-year build into a quarter.

Stage III

ProofAgainst a real population

Distribution through the group’s live consumer surfaces, not a waitlist. The measure is whether people and agents actually transact — because unproven distribution is the failure mode this structure exists to eliminate.

Stage IV

IndependenceThe venture leaves

The company raises externally and the group converts from operator to shareholder. Capital routes to GDA Group for institutional processes. A studio that never lets a company leave is a product division with better branding.

§ 04

The permanent record

A studio that publishes only its wins is a marketing department. Three standing works are maintained here instead: the vocabulary builders need, the post-mortem of every cycle that failed, and the measurement of whether the convergence is actually happening.

The Canon23 entries · numbered, dated, unrevised
The builder’s vocabulary of Web 4. Every entry carries a permanent reference, the date it was published, and the condition it belongs to. Definitions are corrected by publishing a new entry, never by editing an old one.
The Archive6 cases · each with the missing condition named
Why each cycle failed. Metaverse land, play-to-earn, SocialFi, NFT utility, DAO governance, agent products — each one post-mortemed against the four conditions, with the specific one that was absent identified.
The Index of ConvergenceMethodology v1.0 · first readings pending
Four indicators measuring whether any of this is actually happening. Published as a method before it is published as a number, because a measurement whose methodology arrives after the result is not a measurement.

How the properties fit

The one rule. Everything claimed here links to a live surface, a public API, or a commit that can be verified directly. Ambition is labelled North Star. When the work catches up, we update the page — not the other way around.
